The School Project
STATUS: NONFICTION BOOK IN PROGRESS

The School Project gives individuals the opportunity to express feelings and experiences from their school years. For some, these years were traumatic, isolating, fraught, depressing. Others remember it as the glory years, full of fun and thrills, love and friendships, sports and parties, and all things coming-of-age. For many, it falls somewhere in between.

It’s clear a lot of folks are holding on to some bad juju from their formative years, and if this helps their healing process or others currently navigating those waters, I’m all for it. But poignant, painful, memorable or funny, I seek it all.

My project gives people a secure avenue to express themselves, especially as contributors will remain anonymous, which encourages participation from a wider audience. Your experiences, should you choose to share them, are safe with me.

Once I receive enough submissions, I will select portions to include in a book (or books, as this may result in more than one volume, especially if they are split into eras, i.e., elementary school, middle school, high school, college). My sincerest hope is the resulting book provides relatability, validation, comfort, insight, empathy or knowledge. It would be a true bonus if it fostered the healing process for the contributor, but it surely can help others who are currently navigating—or trying to forgive, forget, or release—something similar.

My research is conducted one-on-one via e-mail. Your email will be kept private and used for communication purposes only. By participating, you give me permission to use your story for publication, whether in book form or electronic. I will read and review all submissions, as well as respond to the contributor. Not a writer? Not a problem. I’m only looking for honesty and willingness to tell your story. I also edit every submission for clarity and accuracy, but not voice. I want your essence to shine through. Your submission can be as short or long as it needs; there are no requirements aside from honesty.

I wholeheartedly look forward to reading your submission and thank you for participating.
